Beckham has revealed his mother's emotional reaction to the news of his knighthood in a touching Instagram post. The former United and Real Madrid midfielder was included in the King's Birthday Honours list for 2025 for his services to sport and charity, having been made an OBE all the way back in 2003.

Mum Sandra shed tears of joy during a family meal at Tony's Pie and Mash in Waltham Abbey, Essex, having not seen David since the knighthood news was announced.

Posting on Instagram, Beckham wrote: "Lunch with Mum, haven't seen her since the news… Mum cried when she arrived, cried during lunch and cried when I was leaving x special moment for us all. Love you mum x @sandra_beckham49 (Dads next)."
Commenting underneath, Sandro responded: "Love you more… was emotional people saying congratulations Sir…see tears again."
Wife Victoria added: "You've always been my knight in shining armour, but now it's official. Sir @davidbeckham!!! What an honour, I couldn't be prouder of you. Your dedication to the things that matter most – your country, your work, your passion, and most of all, your family – has never wavered."
